In my childhood, I was mesmerized by a bountiful blooming row of bold yellow daffodils in my grandmother’s garden. The fragrance was intoxicating while their shape was strong and structural. I began using these garden flowers to create corsages like those my dad would purchase from the florist at Easter for my mother, sister and me. I remember opening the corsage box and breathing in the scent of carnations and so my love affair with flowers began. It’s been a joy to have my passion be my profession!   ~ Shelly St. Laurent

Shelly was born in Fall River, Massachusetts where she began learning floristry at 15 years old in an urban, fast paced, popular flower shop. After learning about flower processing, flower care and mechanics of design while developing skill and style, she went on to shops in Boston, Massachusetts . She designed for Plantae at The Westin Hotel, Winston Flowers and her favorite luxury shop, The Ritz Carlton Hotel Flower Shop on Newbury Street where she learned the fine art of customer service.

While in Boston, Shelly had several opportunities to design for Art in Bloom at The Museum of Fine Arts. It was at the MFA where she began to expand her imagination and talent, combined with her love of art and nature, into her interpretive floral design style that she is known for today in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she and her family moved in 1994.

For many years Shelly worked with Elizabeth House Flowers in Charlotte, sharing ideas and different techniques with the creatives there, while learning about floristry in the South. Soon she came to know about Country Clubs, City Clubs and Debutante Balls as well as the many beautiful outdoor venues on greenways, farms and in the mountains of North Carolina. She is a two time award winning designer at The Southern Retail Florist Association.

Foxglove bloomed in 2016 when Shelly decided to provide personal floral design service to her clients, creating florals expertly tailored to their individual style while delivering warm, impeccable customer service. In addition to her artistry, Shelly has crafted an ability to listen and translate her clients ideas into inspired and unique florals. Utilizing varied elements from the natural world, she has a passion for locally grown elements such as oyster mushrooms, forest ferns and a plethora of local blossoms. Sourcing flowers from around the world adds another level of interest to the designs from Foxglove.
